After weeks of hype, the first ever BATTLE FUSION Trifecta Cup 2008 began it’s first of two nights at the hallowed halls of the Tokyo Korakuen Halls. Before any of the tournament matches could begin, a ceremony was held with every team being invited to the ring with sashes around their bodies with their promotion’s logo on it. The ring filled full of humanity as all forty two wrestlers were barely able to squeeze into the ring and onto the apron. Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON president Kazushi Mimura took a microphone, and thanked every promotion that had sent wrestlers to this concept tournament, and told every wrestler in the tournament to fight bravely for the honor of their home promotion to determine which promotion had the “strongest” in junior team work. With that, Mimura bowed deeply to the fans and the wrestlers filed out of the ring.
The first of the six opening round matches saw Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON’s team of Keoni Murata, Hiroshi Kuroki and Ichiyo Tatsuko take on the Pro-Wrestling HERO trio of Ayumu Izuka, Haru Minamoto & Ryan McKenzie. The match moved at an extraordinary pace, as all six men knew that time was of the essence since they would have to compete later on in the night. However, to the surprise of the fans at Korakuen, it would be the Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON team that fell, as the individual weakness of Ichiyo Tatsuko was exposed and Izuka pinned Tatsuko with his “Harakiri” finishing move for the deciding fall to move on to the second round later in the night…Both Murata and Kuroki looked crest fallen, and both shunned Tatsuko as they walked to the back.
The match to decide the second team that moved on to the second round between Nansei Nihon Pro-Wrestling and the small independent promotion Sakura Pro was next up. The Sakura trio came blitzing out from the opening bell, taking the fight to the Nansei Trio from the opening bell with blitzkrieg like pace. However, GALLEON was able to lead Falcon Hori and Wataru Yamada against the Sakura Pro team as he put Shino Nakao out of commission with the G-CRUSHER to secure the second place in the second round against the Pro-Wrestling HERO team!
Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON and Pro-Wrestling DYNAMITE clashed in the third tournament match of the night, as the HEROICS team of HANZO, Akira Tomizaki & Ryosei Royama (Both of whom opted to fight under their real names) took on the trio of Takashi Suzuki, Takanori Fujiwara & Kenta Arakiki. The skills of Takashi Suzuki stood out to many of the fans at Korakuen, with both the CRIMSON and DYNAMITE fans in attendance rallying behind Seiji Ebisawa’s student. However, despite Suzuki’s individual strength, the fluid teamwork and consistency of HEROICS proved to be too much, as Royama caught Arakiki in an Octopus Hold as the other HEROICS members held the DYNAMITE team back, advancing HEROICS to the second round of the tournament!
International flavor was injected in the Trifecta Cup tournament in the fourth match of the night, as the Nansei Nihon Pro-Wrestling team of Prince Fiji, FAIZON & Keisuke Rongai took on the luchadores from Mexico, Máscara Del Norte, Sublime Kid & Justice. The match played out more of a showcase for the Luchadores then any type of coherent match, as the trio from Mexico spent most of the match locking up their opponents in whacky submission holds that made the fans at Korakuen Hall groan in pain. Near the end, the Nansei-Nihon team made a rally, and things were going their way, until Del Norte suddenly drop toe holded Rongai and then turned it into a La Magistral for the flash three count!
The Gakusha Army from Pro-Wrestling DYNAMITE were represented in the fifth match of the first round as the rulebreakers from DYNAMITE went into battle against the heroes from Pro-Wrestling HERO as Shino Hiriyama, Kazuhiro Okamura & Shinichi Honda took on Lion Mask, GADO & Marvel. The HERO team were willing and able to fight against the Gakusha Army team, however, the Gakusha Army did not come to the Trifecta Cup to play around, and without mercy tore apart the HERO team, leading to Okamura pinning Lion Mask with the KO Cutter in the shortest match of the entire first round to advance to the second round!
Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON and Pro-Wrestling FURY clashed in the final match of the first round…sort of. The Okinawa Speed Stars represented the only inter-promotional team with both FURY and CRIMSON wrestlers, making it 4-2 CRIMSON and FURY…The match served as a heat up for the match between Akahito Yamada and Hayato Saigo later this month, as the two tore into each other with the kind of brutality one usually reserves for their most hated enemy. The “official” Okinawa Speed Stars of Kotaro Ota and Fumihiko Shirai were left to face off against former C-1 Heavyweight Champion Naoki Daishi and their partner Natsuo Sakoda in a high quality match. While Saigo continued to keep the C-1 Junior-Heavyweight Champion Akahito Yamada preoccupied, the Okinawa Speed Stars used their agility and fluid team work to stay one step ahead of Naoki Daishi and Natsuo Sakoda eventually leading to Ota hitting Sakoda with the Violent Spark for the three count victory! A huge scene took place after the fall, as Saigo and Yamada continued to fight until they were broken up by their respective partners. Yamada showed rare anger as he hurled insults at Saigo, insisting that he would “prove who was strongest” in their upcoming match…
With that, the second round began as Pro-Wrestling HERO and Nansei-Nihon Pro-Wrestling both fielded their remaining team against each other, ensuring that by the end of the match, one team would be knocked completely out of the tournament. With nothing else on the line but their tournament lives, the two teams fought bravely against each other. Every time the HERO team would begin to pull ahead, GALLEON for Nansei would enter the fray and his individual strength and experience would turn the tide for his team…Despite this, it wouldn’t be GALLEON who would score the pinfall, as FALCON Hori rose up the occasion, blasting the gaijin Ryan McKenzie in the face with his BLADE Kick for the pinfall victory, advancing Nansei Nihon Pro-Wrestling the semi finals and the second day!
Ironically, it would be the second time that Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON’s HEROICS would take on a Pro-Wrestling DYNAMITE team, but this time it was against DYNAMITE’s “Gakusha Army” of Shino Hiriyama, Kazuhiro Okamura & Shinichi Honda. The Gakusha Army team tore into HEROICS with passion, perhaps trying to avenge their fallen promotion friends, or simply out to prove themselves. However, HEROICS would not be a team that would fall easily, as HANZO fought bravely for his team even after Tomizaki had been knocked out of the match by a KO Cutter on the floor from Okamura, and Royama had been triple teamed. HANZO landed his Shobo and Metsubushi moves on all three Gakusha Army members, trying to keep his team in the fray…However, sheer numbers caught up to the HEROICS leader, leading to Shinichi Honda, the lowest ranked Gakusha Army member getting the pinfall over HANZO after he blasted him in the back of the head with an enzuigiri. With that, The Gakusha Army advanced to the semi finals, and the second day.
The first of two byes to the second round entered the fray as the MILLENNIUM STARS, lead by Millennium S.K. took on the team from Mexico of Máscara Del Norte, Sublime Kid & Justice. Before the match even began, there were fireworks as Millennium S.K. made his entrance, he spotted YAKUTA and ATSUKA sitting in the seats he had sent them…S.K. walked over and then arrogantly held up his PWC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Championship and dangled it in front of both of them. YAKUTA remained stoic, but ATSUKA responded by striking the same pose that S.K. had used in his photo that he mailed them. This caused S.K. to quite visibly seethe in anger before he stomped off. He returned a few seconds later with a chair, that he then opened and put in front of ATSUKA and YAKUTA…then commanded SLAYER to sit in the chair, and screamed at him to “watch them!” before entering the ring. SLAYER, true to S.K.’s command proceeded to sit in the chair and stare stoically at both ATSUKA and YAKUTA. YAKUTA responded by staring back, while ATSUKA amused himself by rolling up pieces of paper and throwing them at SLAYER’s face to no response…In the ring, the match was a handicapped match due to S.K. decision that SLAYER was better served watching non-combatants then in the fight, but S.K. and Inoue showed why they are one of the stronger Junior teams as they hung with their skilled luchadore opponents. However, the three on two advantage eventually caught up to them, and the match looked lost after S.K. barely survived a cross body press from Justice…but when Justice turned around he was DECAPITATED by SLAYER who had abandoned his position with the Zanzai Lariat! SLAYER covered and scored the three count off his wicked lariat. S.K. rolled out of the ring and once again approached ATSUKA and YAKUTA, and proceeded to get into an argument with ATSUKA that made everyone around them laugh at both how each of them were acting, but also at their claims such as who the true “ACTION STAR” was in wrestling, but only made S.K. more and more angry until he finally stormed off to the back with SLAYER and Inoue in tow…
Pro-Wrestling FURY and Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON finished off the first night as Pro-Wrestling FURY’s UPRISER’Z took on Pro-Wrestling FURY’s Okinawa Speed Stars + Hayato Saigo. The Pro-Wrestling FURY fans in the building came alive for this match, as Kyoto Okazaki, RYUJI & Manabe Tsuji were greeted by the biggest ovation of jeers from the night. On the flipside, the Okinawa Speed Stars were greeted as the underdog’s favorites of everyone in the building. Before the match, Okazaki attempted to demand a weigh-in for the 100 Kilogram’s limit…but it proved to be a ruse as he bashed Hayato Saigo in the face with a scale before the match began. Hayato Saigo found himself in an unfamiliar position since his ascension to the top of CRIMSON’s juniors, as he tried desperately time and time again to get to his friends Kotaro Ota & Fumihiko Shirai for the tag, but each time UPRISER’Z were able to cut him off and keep him from making the all important tag. Saigo’s chance finally came when RYUJI and Tsuji mis-timed a double team maneuver and crashed into each other allowing Saigo to rush to his corner for the tag. The match completely broke apart at this point, as Ota & Shirai both hit the ring at the same time and bodies began to fly all over the ring and the ring area. In the end, the match came down to Kotaro Ota and Manabe Tsuji and once again, it was Kotaro Ota who sealed the deal for the Speed Stars as he landed the Violent Spark on Manabe Tsuji for the three count victory and the spot in the semi finals against the MILLENNIUM STARS!
