The final day of the Power Source Group Stages was headlined by the first defense of Hayato Saigo’s C-1 Junior-Heavyweight Championship against his mentor, Keoni Murata! The two, from years of teaming and friendship were able to spend most of the early going easily dodging the other’s attacks, but near the end both men exploded with their most impressive and effective moves on the other. Murata nearly won the match with both the Great Wave Bodypress and a Backdrop Suplex, but Saigo showed his reserves by refusing to give up! After both men had exhausted their entire arsenals, it was Saigo who had one ace left up his sleeve as he debuted a PHOENIX SPLASH! It was an impressive feat, which landed beautifully and gave Saigo the hard fought victory! During Saigo’s title presentation, Saigo’s arch rival Millennium S.K. suddenly appeared and demanded to be the next challenger! Saigo and S.K. engaged in a heated argument before Saigo accepted, and the two former best friends will clash next month!
In the final tournament match of the night, Kenjiro Amagawa’s dreams were crushed by Komatsu’s vicious attacks. Amagawa, who has always shown abilities beyond his age fought bravely against Komatsu, but the differences in experience, skill, and style proved to be too much for Amagawa to overcome, and he was finally bested by a Komatsu sliding knee kick! Rouzeki-GUN clashed in the third tournament match of the night. Makoto Saito and Goro Iijima who both have similar styles went right at each other like bulls, but it was Goro Iijima’s burning desire to finally have the big win of his career that proved to be the deciding factor, as he blasted his stablemate with the Kinan High Kick for the victory.
Keiji Hirano finally received points in the tournament, albeit when he had nothing to fight for. Hirano, who is always undersized against heavyweights, was in his element against the massive Yujiro Higuchi as he exposed Higuchi’s weaknesses to lighter fighters before using a picture perfect moonsault for the win and the two points! In the first tournament match of the night, Toshiro Noguchi’s hopes of tying Nobuyori Shimizu’s five points went up in smoke when Eiichi Aihara refused to be beaten. Aihara had resigned himself to playing the spoiler roll, and executed it perfectly. Noguchi was frustrated the entire thirty minutes, and could do nothing to end the match before the time limit was up!
Izumo Yoritomo won the final heat up for his match against Yuki Nomura, albeit in indirect fashion. Yoritomo and Toyota formed an amazing team of power against Yuki Nomura and the returning Ryosei Royama. Nomura attempted to guide the young Royama to victory, but the young Royama proved to be way over his head against the awesome power of Rouzeki-GUN, and was crushed with Toyota’s “Sky High Suplex” for the Rouzeki-GUN victory!
The El Gran Tomizaki character for Akira Tomizaki can now be called a complete bust. Tomizaki took S.K.’s call for him to wrestle a more “aggressive style” to heart, and used many rulebreaking maneuvers during the six man tag in match two. S.K.’s “advice” proved to be a trick as the fans viciously booed Tomizaki after just a few nights before they cheered him like a hero. Tomizaki seemed distracted by the change of the crowd, and was easily beaten by Naoki Daishi’s Jujigatame! After the match, S.K. definitively called the El Gran Tomizaki character a “failure”, saying that the fans were booing him like a complete failure! S.K. told Tomizaki that on the 30th he was being given one final chance to find a character or he’d be expelled from the group!
For the first time in ages two young wrestlers clashed in the opening match. Takayuki Ariwa was completely frustrated by Takagi’s power, before being almost speared out of his ring boots, and then powerbombed for the victory for Takagi!
