E+ SPORTS President and Nobuaki Ueda's brainchild of a tournament to crown the greatest deathmatch wrestler in the world saw nights one and nights two take place on the 4th and 5th.
Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON had two representatives in the tournament, but in spirit, there were three. SLAYER and Daisuke Yamazaki both left the tournament in the first round. SLAYER met up against one of the very few men who could break his defenses down, in the American Deathmatch legend Sean King who after much trial and error was able to keep the junior monster down. Daisuke Yamazaki faced off against Kazuma Fujita trained Kyuwa Suzuki, where Yamazaki fell to a lariat, much like Suzuki's mentor...Yamazaki was quoted as saying that he "hates" the lariat after taking it so often...Tatsumichi Akamatsu was unable to be reached for comment on Yamazaki's loss...
Both of them returned for night two, and participated in a War Games Barbwire Bat Ladder Deathmatch, with their team emerging victorious off the back of Pro-Wrestling FURY's ZERO Kubota.
However, the tournament belonged to the former Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON tag team champion Makoto Saito. A founding member of Rouzeki-GUN, and a strong part of the promotion for years...In what could be considered the most heroic performance of the year, Makoto Saito despite being outgunned by many of his opponents, came through in the clutch, and took the King of the Deathmatch Tournament championship before dedicating the victory to his former tag team partner, and best friend Tenshin Komatsu who retired earlier this year.
In the first round, Makoto Saito faced off against Pro-Wrestling FURY's ZERO Kubota, in a battle of the two top names in the tournament. It was a back and forth match, but Saito was continually on the defensive before finally pulling out the victory in what could have been up to that point, the biggest singles victory of Saito's career.
Round two saw Saito take on Jin Nakasone from BURNING PARADISE. Nakasone threw every dirty tactic he knew against Saito, but Saito steadfast refused to be deterred, and put Nakasone away with the Silencer.
In what was a horribly violent match, Makoto Saito actually lost to American legend Sean King in a horrifying Spidernet Deathmatch. The two threw everything at each other, with King's size and strength advantage winning out most of the time, yet Saito continued to plow forward with tenacity rarely seen. Saito's shoulder was ripped open, and blood gushed forward with other accumulated gashes, but the match continued. The finish came when King landed his SK Driver off the scaffold ONTO the spidernet.
Despite winning, Sean King was unable to continue to the finals after swallowing barbwire. This caused a void in the finals, which Makoto Saito dutifully stepped up to fill against the American Frank Dylan James. Despite being mauled from his matches, Saito fought with the courage of ten men, as Dylan James kept coming at him like a machine. It would be Saito's striking skills that would be the deciding factor, as a high kick sent Frank Dylan James flying into a second landmine, causing the American to be unable to continue the match. Saito was treated like a star by the Yokohama fans, but Saito expressed regret at having been unable to defeat Sean King...Regardless, he dedicated his win to Tenshin Komatsu, and stated that he would accept a rematch with King and defend his tournament title against the man who defeated him.
After the event, Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON President Kazushi Mimura sent a boutique of flowers to Makoto Saito, with a note thanking him for years of loyal work, and a "wonderful series of matches"...Tenshin Komatsu had been in attendance for the event, taking time off to see his best friend wage war over the two day event. When Saito recovered enough after defeated Frank Dylan James, he and Tenshin Komatsu engaged in a conversation after the event concluded in the backstage area of the Yokohama Bunka Gymnasium with reporters present...Komatsu told Saito that he had been feeling like he might one day make a comeback, but joked that watching Saito in action had shown him that he didn't have the guts to do what Saito had done. Saito attempted to say that he hadn't done much, but Komatsu cut off his friend by telling him that he had done something that very few could have ever done...Komatsu reached behind him, and pulled out the red headband that he had worn for entrances, and placed it in Saito's hand. Komatsu, with his voice somewhat shaking told his friend that he was now intrusting his own personal hopes and dreams within him, while sealing all thoughts of returning. Komatsu said that he could never match what Saito had done, and implored Saito to move on with his career, but to never forget what they had done together. The usually stoic Saito's face contorted in emotion, and he attempted to hide his face by bowing to Komatsu...but Komatsu responded by bowing even lower then his partner as both seemed to openly cry, before the two embraced.
